I’ve always loved the intimacy and authenticity you can find when photographing an in home family session. Being in your own environment—your safe place—brings a truth to the session that’s always so special to document.
When planning in home family sessions, I always ask the family if there’s anything that’s special to them that they would like captured. This could be anything from baking together, eating breakfast together, cuddling in a favorite chair, playing in the backyard, reading books, etc. The little moments that sometimes seem so routine are the moments we’ll miss the most as seasons change.
When planning Jordan’s family session, her “something special” was gardening in their backyard and taking a walk near and around their home. We started inside, following the light and moving through all the rooms in the house they use so much throughout their day. It felt like catching a glimpse of their story and the way they live life—cozy home, slow living, and grateful hearts. We then headed outside for some gardening in the evening light and it was nothing short of magical.
I loved this session and family so much and am beyond grateful they welcomed me into their home to capture a little slice of their heaven.
